Research
Several initiatives are ongoing in our research program. These include analyzing data to determine what factors appear to be most associated with developing a substance use disorder so that these may be applied to prevention efforts for youth and future generations.
Clinical Research
It is well known that alcohol dependence runs in families, but do childhood and adolescence psychiatric disorders make individuals with a family history of alcohol dependence more vulnerable to developing a substance use problem themselves?
Genetic Research
The scientific study of the origins of other substance use disorders began to emerge when researchers began to look for familial patterns of substance use disorder.
MRI Research
Offspring from families with alcohol dependence have been shown to exhibit brain morphological alterations that appear to be related to their familial/genetic risk for alcohol dependence. Greater susceptibility for developing alcohol dependence may be related to structural underpinnings.
